Takefu Knife Village / Echizen Uchihamono

Echizen Uchihamono was first produced about 700 years ago when Chiyozuru Kuniyasu, a swordsmith from Kyoto. He moved to the area around present-day Echizen City and began making sickles in addition to making swords. Since then, the area has become a famous production center for cutlery manufacturing in Japan and is now attracting worldwide attention for its sharpness and design.

Takefu Knife Village is a joint factory of a research group of young cutlery craftsmen. In this unique cylindrical building, visitors can observe traditional forging techniques. Also they  have experience from paper knife making to full-scale forged knife making (Fee is required, reservations are also required).
