Awara Onsen is the best hot spring resort in Fukui Prefecture. About 130 years ago, a local farmer dug a well, and the source began to gush out, bringing the number of sources to more than 40. The composition, quality, and efficacy of the springs differ somewhat from inn to inn.
Currently, about 30 inns stand with beautiful Japanese gardens and guest rooms with open-air baths. Ashiyu baths have also opened at the Yunomachi Square, and some facilities allow visitors to soak their feet in the hot water.
